Teach Your Dog What 'Toes' Means

tenor-dog-high-five-toes.jpgThe command "Toes" helps whenever you need to clean muddy paws after your dog has been playing outside.

Or, when you need to dry off wet paws after a bath.

Or, when you want to trim your dog's nails.

I like it better than "high five" because the dog learns to place his paw in your hand, rather than tap your hand up high.

Or, when you want to trim your dog's toenails!

Pictured below is Tenor on his 2nd night home with us learning how to give us his toes.

Because we started so young, "Toes" is the command that is most firmly implanted in his brain. He will always give you his toes -- often without even asking. He just promptly places his paw in your hand.

ak - you're right, "toes" is similar to what most people teach as "shake".

It's just that we taught our dog to do a full-body shake (to dry his wet fur) whenever we give the command "shake". So we needed a new command, and "toes" was it :-D

Here's how we taught our dog to do the full-body shake on command:

what is the difference between this and "shake"? Looks the same to me...
