Good God, what's wrong with calling a crossbreed a crossbreed? Why not just say "my dog Bessie is a Pekingese - Poodle mix" instead of making up a stupidly demeaning name like "Peke-a-Poo", which sounds like some kind of toilet voyeur?

Note that I'm saying nothing about the crossbreeding of these dogs, some of the crosses sound quite pleasant; but some of the names on this list -and the prices people are probably charging for said dogs- make me sick.

I have what i think to be a very unusual mix My 3lb male chihuahua stud dog has managed to mate my 21Kg staffodshire bull terrier bitch... Much to our amazement she is showing all the early signs of pregnancy and is booked into the vets for an ultra-sound scan next tuesday to check.... what is the possibility of her being pregnant?

Well, I have searched your website and the Universal Kennel Club's website and I have yet to find anything on the dog I own. I paid to send in his registration 3 years ago to the Universal Hybrid Kennel Club International and one would think if the breed (though a hybrid) is registered that you would be able to find something about them. So my question to you is why is there no information regarding a registered hybrid Rat-Chester Terrier?

I'm with Misty. This ridiculous "designer mutt" craze is just encouraging more people to stick 2 dogs together in the backyard, slap a stupid name on the offspring, and sell them for inflated prices. In case you haven't noticed, shelters have been full of these lovable mutts for years...and now there's even more of them filling shelters due to unscrupulous people breeding them willy-nilly.
Besides, a "hybrid" is a cross between two closely related SPECIES. A dog/wolf cross is a hybrid. A Poodle/Schnauzer mix, is a mixed breed dog. Dogs, regardless of breed, are all the same species....calling them "hybrids" and purporting false claims of "hybrid vigor" is only lending credence to what amounts to a gigantic swindling of the American dog owning public. Want a cute mutt? Go to a shelter and save a life.

I have a Pembroke Welsh Corgi & a Shih Apso & they had 3 of the prettiest & cutest puppies ever. And they are very sweet & loveable. Anyway, I think you call them a Shorgi. I've only seen 1 person's puppies on the internet called Shorgi, but I think the corgi was a cardigan welsh. Has anyone ever seen a shorgi? Do we need cutsey little names for the mutts in this world. I am a breeder or PUREBRED dogs. I feel that this whole hybrid thing has gone way too far. About as far as the line breeding has gone. People are breeding grandfather to grandaughter and calling this line breeding and they are ok with this. Tell me, what happens when some sicko does lewd acts with his relative that is younger than him? He goes to jail, right? Then people who are line breeding and hybrid crossing just to make a buck should go to jail. If you want a mixed breed, check the humane society. If you want a purebred, check local reputable breeders. Don't give in to this hybrid crap. Hybrids are cars that run off of electricity.

Ok... I see this site and everyone writing their comments and it worries me. I believe everyone here means well. I myself take great pride in having two mixed breed dogs and have fun with my "Daniff" and my "Sharpull Terrier". However, both of my dogs are fixed. I do not promote breeding of any mutts in this day and age. Much less breeding mutts to make more money on the puppies just because they have cute names now. A mutt is a mutt. You shouldn't ask for more money for your puppies or expect "papers" or any of the various things that are going on both here and in our local newspapers. Enjoy the dogs you have. If you happen to run across the mix again by all means get another one, but unless you are honestly trying to improve a breed, go to the pound or your local shelter. There are so many mixes that need you. Oh, and BTW... someone out there is just making up these cute names.... it doesn't take much effort to plug two or more names together. (i.e. Great Dane + Mastiff = Daniff and Shar-Pei + Pitt Bull Terrier = Sharpull Terrier... you can do it yourself.)

I have a beautiful dog named Apollo. He's 1/2 golden retriever, 1/4 German Shepard, and 1/4 Great Pyrennees. As the lady in the last post said about her dog: he's sweet, loving, and incredibly smart (he was offering to shake without us teaching him and even learned to 'sit up' the same way). Would he have a "breed type?" A German Golden Pyrenees? :P (I wish I had pictures I could post.)

I have a dachshund/chihuahua mix. He was adopted from the Humane Society. He is so sweet, affectionate and SMART. He loves to snuggle, walks well on a leash, gets along with my other dogs, cat and rabbits! He is a great watchdog and is laid back; not hyper or high strung like many pure bred chihuahuas.
I encourage everyone to PLEASE ADOPT A DESIGNER BREED! There is a precious life out there that NEEDS a loving home with you!

I adopted my "tootsie" half lhasa half tibetan terrier about 4 years ago and she has been the absolute love and joy of my life!!!! She is swwet, playfull, very, very eager to please, but can be a bit moody every once in awhile--but so are we. But overall her best attribute is her eagerness to please, which made her very easy to train! She is about 5 yrs now and weighs around 26lbs, she a bit heavy, she should be around 22lbs. She is incredibly loving and patient! i would definatly completely recomend this mix, she is also very healthy as we have had no problems thus far, and her teeth are "the nicest teeth " my vet has ever seen. In conclusion, tootsie is the love of my life and i would totally recomend this mix!! i would like to hear how things go if in fact you do adopt this mix. By the way--i have never met anyone else with this mix--

I recently saw the most precious dog...it was a hybrid between a small Chow and a Miniature Schnauzer. I've also seen pictures of these dogs on the internet. My hybrid dogs aren't designer dogs - they were just accidents :) I have a chow - lab mix and a basset - great dane. Both are amazing dogs with great personalities. I would advise anyone to adopt "accidents" like mine, providing they come from dogs with good temperaments. Best of all, many dog owners are willing to give away such puppies for little or no charge.

My neighbors Cocker Spaniel made friendly with my Rottwieller and I got one puppy named Sebastian.
