How Your Dog Could Help You Get A Date

Single dog owners… unite!

Why single people need a dog.

Let’s say, you’ve already got a dog…

Great!

But chances are, you probably haven’t considered the many ways that your pet can open the door for you in terms of getting more dates.

On the other hand, if you haven’t got a dog yet and you’re single, then you might want to get one.

Why Every Single Person Should Have A Dog

I’ve always said that having a dog is one of the best ways to get a date.

Why?

destin_jim_hugs.jpgBecause they:

Get you out & about — where you’re likely to meet more people in general (…outside of your apartment!)

Put you in the company of other people like you (…who also have dogs like at the vet, the park, downtown, or anywhere else you might be walking your dog)

Help you “break the ice” (…if you are in close enough proximity to other people, they are highly likely to comment on your cute puppy)

Give you something to talk about (…those likely to strike up a conversation with you when you are with your pet are likely to be dog lovers themselves)

And if you’re talking about dogs (your dog, their dog, dogs in general) with this person, then you’ve already jumped a huge hurdle in the dating world: finding something that you have in common.

Here are some specific ways your dog can help you find a date.

Been There, Done That

jim-walking-dog.gif I base this information on my own single days as a dog owner. My dog definitely helped to put me in the right place at the right time to strike up a conversation with a number of potential dates. From there, it was up to me to either make it happen or not.

Did my dog ultimately put me in touch with my future husband?… Well, despite the fact that Jim (said husband) and I actually “met” another way, my dog played a very important role in the dating process. Most memorable was our first date when Jim brought him some puppy pepperoni to bribe Jersey into liking him. And Jersey, (who was the reason I rarely brought any men into my apartment because he wasn’t real friendly toward guys), wholeheartedly accepted Jim with open arms paws from that day forward.

So there you have it.

New Study Reveals Dogs Are Date Magnets

Oddly enough, there is a study that seems to back up my findings:

  • When it comes to meeting women, 58% of men surveyed said a puppy is a foolproof babe magnet in the park.
  • 46% of women said they’d stop and talk to anyone with a cute puppy.
  • When it comes to dating dog lovers, make sure their dog is a match, too. 66% of dog owners said they wouldn’t even consider dating someone who didn’t like their dog.

Niche Dating Sites Have Gone To The Dogs!

Now, if you are up for something REALLY fun, then try out one or two online dating sites — just for dog lovers! Some directly involve your pet on the “date”, others just give you something in common to talk about.

One of the most popular online dating sites for dog owners is: DateMyPet.com.

Many single dog owners have found friends (and ultimately, spouses!) thanks to this website that pairs you up with someone who owns the same type of pet that you do and who resides in your own area.

DateMyPet.com is the leading online dating website created exclusively for pet lovers. Whether you are looking for a life partner, a buddy for your pet or just someone to hang out with, here you’ll be able to find exactly who you are looking for – pet lovers like yourself. It’s fun, interactive, safe and anonymous – until you decide to take it further.

How it works:

You can choose “a date for your pet” — which simply means that you’re primarily looking for a playmate for your dog, and you (and the other pet owner) will simply be going along as an innocent bystander and facilitator for the two dogs’ first meeting.

This is the preferred method for those who are simply interested in making friends with other dog owners, and/or helping your dog make friends in the area. It’s also a viable dating option for those who want to take things slow… by establishing a true friendship first.

OR…

You can choose “a date for me” — which means that you’re clearly interested in going out on dates with someone who has a pet like yours.

This is for the more adventurous types or those who are interested in dating lots of people… just for the fun of it. One thing’s for sure, you’ll both have something in common. That is, your pets!
