Subtitled: "Just Who Did We Buy Those Expensive Pillows For Anyway?"
We recently invested in a new set of down pillows for our master bedroom. Actually two sets of pillows -- one King size and one Standard size. And these are some super-duper pillows, too.
They're a premiere line of hotel-quality pillows from Hampton Inn. (And yes, they were expensive.)
The only thing is... sometimes I think our dog enjoys those pillows more than we do!
Together, Jim and I have had 3 dogs.
First, there was Jersey, who was "my dog" first but welcomed Jim into our lives with open arms. Then came Destin, the dog we found under a dumpster. And then, Destin's "brother from another mother", Tenor. There was actually a point in time where we had all three under one roof at the same time. But now there's only Tenor.
Our buddy Destin recently went to chase rainbows in the sky and to play with Jersey in fields that are forever green.
If one (or more) dog has resided in your home for awhile, and you plan to introduce another dog into the family, then at some point you are likely to sense some jealousy or have some issues with dog aggression.
This is natural -- primarily because the dogs' instinctual pack behavior comes into play and a hierarchy must be established as to who is the "lead dog" (Alpha), the "second in command" (Beta), and so on down to the "lowest ranking dog" (Omega).
Here's what you need to know before bringing another dog into your home... (This is what worked for us.)
Who is really the boss in your home... You, or your dog?
If you've got more than one dog, which one is the top dog?
You need to know this.
We learned it the hard way... after one of our dogs got a bit out of line. Some 'experts' in the field taught us how to communicate to him in terms of dog packs and hierarchies and show him that we are the "Alpha dog" -- at all times -- not him!
*** UPDATE: Cesar Milan came & went... this offer is expired now.
Calling all problem pooches!...
Here he is... 4-1/2 months old now. And just as sweet as can be! (Though he's a bit tall and lanky... he's in that awkward "in between" stage where he's starting to grow into his large paws, long legs, and big head.)
Tenor's name has proven to be a good choice for this little Black Lab/Great Pyrenees mix, as we certainly have caught him "singing the blues" a few times already in his young life.
Here's the scoop...
What should you do when an overly protective older dog goes too far in his role as Alpha dog?
Sometimes the leader of the pack needs to learn a few things himself!
