PetGadget.com Site Review

pet-gadgets-logo.jpg PetGadgets.com offers "innovative and high tech pet products". That's right up my alley because Jim and I are definitely of the "gotta try every new high-tech gadget" group.

So I was eager to see if there were any high-tech pet gadgets that we we've been missing out on. It appears that that there are...

While PetGadgets.com has products for cats, dogs, birds, and a handful of other creatures, since this is a dog site, we're mostly concerned about products for dogs here.

I went through all 19 of their categories of dog gadgetry and found quite a few new and/or unique items I hadn't seen before on any other site (... and some that I had).

These are my favorites:

The Good...

kozmos-corner.gif The absolute best part about PetGadgets.com is their section called Kozmo's Corner! Using the drop-down box, you can select individual products for which they have actually sat down and had a one-on-one interview with the inventor of that product. A wealth of information can be found in those interviews. Plus, that's something that few other sites are doing. Kozmo's Corner definitely makes PetGadgets.com stand out from the rest in terms of online pet supply stores.

Bonus: Any time you're viewing an individual product for which they've conducted an interview, you can click on "Kozmo's Interview" directly from there. (I'd still recommend searching through all the interviews separately because something there might pique your interest -- even if you already own it. If you're like me, there are a handful of products that you've wondered, "How in the world (or why) did they ever come up with that in the first place?!")

Also good are the honest to goodness fun high-tech gadgets for dogs that can be found at this site. There are a boatload of 'em. And I really have not seen the majority of them mentioned on other dog-related websites that I've been to.

The Bad...

A couple of things seriously lacking on the PetGadgets.com website are close-up photographs of the products, and (even moreso) thorough descriptions of the products.

For example, with the PetBuckle Travel Harness (a seatbelt for your dog while riding in the car), I wanted to see how this one was different from the one I currently use for my dogs. I figured this site was going to have the "coolest, newest, highest-tech version" of doggie seatbelts. But I couldn't verify this in any way, since the description simply said, "Your car's seat belt can be used with this harness to safely secure your dog on road trips. Made of quality seat belt material, this harness can fit any dog from 10 to 200 pounds."

Overall, most of the product descriptions are far too brief and far too general to lend any real value. The products are cool though, in theory. I just want to be able to learn more about those products without having to go to other sites to research them more.

My Summary...

PetGadgets.com was definitely a fun site to review. I learned a lot through "Kozmo's Interviews" and I found a ton of new dog products I'd never seen before. In a lot of ways, PetGadgets.com is a cutting edge site for dog lovers.

I sense that they're a fairly new site, though I couldn't find data to support that anywhere. It appears that they plan to add much more to the site. For example, the "MarketPlace" simply says "Coming Soon" and the "New Products" section is merely a repeat of the homepage itself. Even the "Gift Ideas" portion of the site only shows 4 products at this time.

I definitely think they're onto something here... and I trust that the folks at PetGadgets.com will be adding lots of fun new ways to enhance the user experience, while increasing their stock of high-tech pet products at the same time.

Which leads me to this:
from the About Us page on PetGadgets.com

PetGadgets.com does not stock, ship or process orders (with the exception of the Visiglo Lighted Leash, Hammock Style Seat Cover and QuickFinder). Orders are placed directly with the merchant, which is responsible for product quality as well as shipping and delivery. Any concerns or questions should be made directly to merchants."

In effect, they're not an online store at all. Even though PetGadgets.com looks like an online store, they are simply linking you to other online stores which sell high-tech pet gadgets. Such is why their "Kozmo's Corner" (see above) is so important. It's the one thing that makes this pet product site stand out from the all the rest.

I was asked to review PetGadgets.com through ReviewMe.com. I had never been to PetGadgets.com before, but on first glance thought the site looked interesting, so I agreed. This is a paid (albeit honest) review of PetGadets.com.
